Southern Counties East Football League
Crowborough Athletic FC (1) 3 (Callum Ridley 4, Michael Ademilvyi 70, Scott Treleavan 85)
Croydon FC (0) 1 (Michael Craveiro 47)
In a frenetic game of football played in good spirit but an unrelenting pace, Croydon showed a lack of composure at both ends of the pitch to end up on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline.
The match had hardly settled when Crowborough opened the scoring in the 4th minute. A right wing cross appeared innocent enough but the diminutive Callum Ridley got above the 2 players marking him and headed home powerfully.
The 1st half saw the minimum of chances with Ben Mankelow shooting over and Michael Craveiro having a powerful drive from distance. The best chance fell to the home side however, Jonathan Trotter heading over Alex Rich’s cross when he should have scored.
It only took until the 2nd minute of the 2nd period before Croydon got a deserved equaliser. The dynamic Craveiro, who could have grabbed 2 more goals if lady luck had smiled on him, cut in from the right and unleashed a brilliant left foot shot the smashed into the far corner of the goal.
It seemed for a whole that the Trams could get their noses in front, nice interplay between Mankelow and Tristan Toney set up Karl Douglin for a shot the keeper Callum Hampton could only parry. Mankelow drove in from the right channel and shot narrowly over and Toney got one on one with the keeper but got to close and Hampton blocked his point blank effort.
It looked like next goal would win it and so it proved when the Trams failed cut out a cross in the 70th minute and Michael Ademilvyi headed in.
Within a minute Croydon should have equalised again, Douglin through ball picking out Craveiro who blazed over with only the keeper to beat. Fray James then fired a free kick just wide before Craveiro burst through on goal again. This time he carried his run to far and with the cross looking the better option Hampton saved his team once more.
Then Trams substitute Badar Mohammed went so close when he spurned an open goal from Craveiro’s pinpoint cross. It was his 1st touch of the ball though.
With time running out Scott Treleavan bagged his team’s final goal in the 85th minute As his half hit shot crept past a wrong footed Ameyaw to ensure there was an anticlimactic ending to an entertaining but frustrating game.
Croydon: Francis Ameyaw; Robert Curtis; Luke Turner; Adam Allen; Michael Craveiro; James Jordan (Rhys Martin 81); Ben Mankelow; Steven Cox; Tristan Toney; Karl Douglin; Fray James (Badar Mohammed 81).
